Pelco DX8000 Digital Video Recorder

Pelco DX8000

Product Review

Good: The Pelco DX8000 Digital Video Recorder (DVR) offers a 480 total fps and 720 x 576 resolution, a user-friendly interface for the user and installer alike, audio on all channels, and its backed with its great reputation for customer service. Free thick or thin client software is available. Cameras are individually configurable for continuous, motion, and/or alarm. Export options include standard .avi and .asf as well as Pelco’s proprietary format with watermark.

Bad: Different software platform from previous 7000 series so existing customers cannot add a 8000 series on the same software without replacing everything. Some reliability issues reported with customers experiencing periodic rebooting.

Bottom Line: For a high-end DVR, the Pelco DX8000 delivers great performance, easy installation and top user-interface. However, concerns with reliability have diminished its reputation and hopefully the DX8100 can remedy that.
